I’m all about showing you some of the stuff I do. A lot of it uses computers. Some of it uses lights. I might go on and on about why and forget about the how, but then remember that too, and go on and on about that a bit as well.

Rodrigo Constanzo makes art.
He thinks this is an important thing to do.
The art he makes is generally smeared in time, in the form of music.
He believes in magic. He believes in sharing things.
He believes in teaching.
He believes in openness.
He love sweet jams, and avoids speaking with a complicated vocabulary as much as possible.
He tries to live as presently and honestly as possible.

Friday evening is a diverse exploration of improvisation. Rodrigo Costanzo (programmer and improvisor extraordinnaire), Brian Crabtree (inventor of the monome) and filmmaker/artist Angela Guyton present a work of interdiscplinary connections between dynamic lighting, real-time video, drums and live electronics. Opening the concert is Owen Green—a Research Fellow on Huddersfield's five-year ERC-funded Flucoma project—whose music explores the sonic potential of cardboard, processed and augmented by electronics.

Join BBC Radio 3 presenter Sara Mohr-Pietsch and the London Contemporary Orchestra for a specially curated Prom in the industrial surroundings of The Tanks at Tate Modern. In a link-up with BBC Radio 3’s new music series Open Ear, cutting-edge experimental music sits side by side with brand-new sounds and free improvisation.

The programme includes a collaboration between the LCO and London-based electronic artist Actress; new work by Catherine Lamb; Cassandra Miller’s evocative, folk-inspired Guide performed by vocal ensemble Exaudi; and Rodrigo Constanzo’s dynamic performances with light and sound.

What happens when you lock four improvisers in a black box with their instruments, microphones, cameras, projectors, curtains, and computers? Two 14-day sessions later: a performance/installation at the intersection of their four respective universes, exploring the grey areas between composition and improvisation, direct and deferred, opening and form, silence and noise…

Formed by musicians Sylvain Pohu (CA), Patrick Saint-Denis (CA), Rodrigo Constanzo (ES-US) and Pierre Alexandre Tremblay (CA-UK), the group’s main area of research revolves around performing (with) technology. Each member brings a singular toolkit and a set of expertise, whose ramifications cover the whole computer music spectrum (live audio processing, musical interfaces, interactive video and audio, robotics).

The four improvisers face each other and the audience surrounding them. In the middle of this concentric setup, the musicians control four robotic accordions, 32 lights, and three video projectors, in real-time. Everything merges into a single interactive multilayered instrument in order to respond to a strong appetite for noise and saturation.
